OVERVIEW

Yo buddy, check this out: BYTES is like a reverse tower defense game where, dude, you’re the attacker. You get to build your own path and use special tiles to dodge damage to your Bytes, bro. There’s this rogue AI called “NLAI 74a” or “Complexus” that slipped past New Life security, and your goal is to stop it from wrecking the city of East Grid by taking back security nodes, yo.

Complexus is super smart and will try to mess with your plans by setting up turrets that counter your moves. No path stays safe for long, dude. Complexus earns credits by destroying your Bytes and passing rounds, just like a player would, and uses those credits to buy and upgrade turrets.

The game has semi-random elements and 8 different turrets for Complexus to use, so no level plays the same way twice, bro. Bytes is all about avoiding damage and adapting to new threats by building your path. You gotta mix and match special tiles to get through levels, jump over gaps, teleport past walls, or out-speed turrets. You may also be interested in the game Undersea 8.

You can change the formation of your Bytes, cluster them together, or spread them out, depending on what’s coming at you, dude. Choose between three different types of Bytes or customize your own waves in the Byte Editor. Beat levels, unlock upgrades, and take on tougher nodes to reclaim the 71 security nodes of East Grid in any order you want.

The story in Bytes progresses as you complete Story Nodes, and you can do them in any order, buddy. The game remembers the order you did them, so you can revisit old scenes if you want. Bytes features a full story with two main endings and dialogue options to interact with the characters. You play as a hacker hired by New Life to stop their rogue AI, Complexus, from messing up the city.

3. Once the download is complete, right-click the .zip file and choose “Extract to “BYTES The Reverse Tower Defense” (You’ll need 7-Zip, available here).
4. Open the game, and run the exe application.
5. Enjoy playing! Remember to run the game as an administrator. If you encounter any missing DLL errors, check for a Redist or _CommonRedist folder and install all the programs it contains.
