OVERVIEW

Step back into the Valley of the Mines with this remake of the classic open-world RPG that pretty much set the standard for the genre. The world’s full of life and detail, and you actually get to shape it—your choices matter, and people notice what you do. Doesn’t really matter if you played the original ages ago or if you’re diving in for the first time; there’s a lot of adventure and freedom, plus plenty of decisions that count.

Here’s the setup: The Kingdom of Myrtana is under siege by a huge army of orcs. King Rhobar II needs magical ore for weapons, so he sends prisoners to work the mines on the island of Khorinis. To keep them from escaping, they create a magical barrier—but things go completely sideways and everyone gets trapped inside. The prisoners rise up, overthrow the guards, and take control. Now, the colony’s a wild, dangerous place ruled by whoever’s toughest. It’s survival of the fittest, and trust is hard to come by. You may also be interested in the game Remorses.
